Choice Spread
3 cardsWhen you're weighing two options and need perspective
About This Spread
Some decisions can be made with a spreadsheet. Others resist analysis no matter how much information you gather — because the real question isn't which option looks better on paper, but which one is right for *you*, right now, given who you're becoming. The Decision Spread is for those moments.
Two cards lay out the probable trajectory of each path — the energy, the likely direction, the feeling tone of choosing A versus choosing B. Neither card delivers a verdict; they offer two windows into two possible futures, and the view through each window is the data.
The Guidance card is where this spread distinguishes itself from a simple A/B comparison. This third card rarely says 'pick A' or 'pick B.' It tends instead to illuminate the *criterion* you should be using — the value or quality that should be at the center of this choice, the thing you might have been overlooking, or the reframe that makes the answer suddenly obvious. A Guidance card that points to abundance might suggest neither option should be chosen from scarcity. One that points to patience might suggest neither option should be chosen yet.
If you're facing more than two options, this spread adapts easily: add an additional outcome card for each option beyond two, and keep the single Guidance card at the end. The structure scales without losing its shape.
Bring a specific framing for each option before you draw. 'Option A is staying in this job' and 'Option B is leaving' is more useful than two options that are still vague in your own mind.
Card Positions
- 1
If I Choose A
The energetic trajectory of Option A — the probable direction, dynamic, or outcome if you move down this path. This is not a guarantee, but the likely flow of this choice.
- 2
If I Choose B
The energetic trajectory of Option B — the probable direction, dynamic, or outcome if you move down this path instead.
- 3
Guidance
The synthesizing card: not which option is objectively better, but what principle, value, or perspective should guide your decision. This card often reframes the question entirely.
When to Use This Spread
- ✦ Two clear options you've been weighing and can't decide between
- ✦ Any crossroads — career, relationships, living situations, major commitments
- ✦ When your head and your heart are pointing in different directions
- ✦ Decisions that feel too significant to make on analysis alone
How to Read It
Define Options A and B clearly before you draw — write them down if it helps. Draw three cards and place the first two side by side (A and B outcomes) with the Guidance card below or between them. Read the A and B cards as parallel visions of two different paths, not as better and worse. Then read the Guidance card as the lens through which to evaluate both — it's rarely about which path, more often about which *version of you* is making the choice.
